Kitsap County's Innovative Rain Garden Cost Share Program

Installing rain gardens as part of new construction, or as part of a redesign of a lawn at an existing home, can be a terrific idea. Rain gardens at homes reduce runoff and pollutants from lawns, recharge local aquifers, ensure sufficient water in streams for salmon and other fish, and beautify one's property.

Kitsap County's Surface and Stormwater Program has a program going to reimburse homeowners up to 50% (up to $500 total) for costs of installing a rain garden. The Kitsap Conservation District is managing the program, and providing technical assistance to interested homeowners.

Here's an article from the Kitsap Sun on the innovative program. Kudos to Kitsap County and the Kitsap Conservation District!
